Can we increase upload speed for streaming?

First of all, let’s differentiate between upload speed and download speed. Download speed refers to the rate at which data is transferred from the internet to the user’s computer. At the same time, upload speed is the rate at which data is transferred from the local computer to the internet. More often, service providers set the default setting to download speed than upload speed. The primary reason is that most of the users have more download needs like downloading movies, songs and a large number of documents from the internet.

If your internet upload speed is low, ensure that you are getting the same speed for which you are paying to the service provider. At the same time, you have to find out whether you have asynchronous service, which provides faster download speeds than upload speeds or synchronous service which provides both the speeds equally or divides bandwidth equally.

If your upload speed is not up to the mark where it should be ideally, there are few tips which help to step up the upload speed. Some of these things can be done by yourself while others require the help of your internet service provider. In the case of Wi-Fi, there is a general observation that Wi-Fi connections are slower than wired connections because of the limitations in bandwidth. In such cases, try to switch on to a wired connection and see the result. On the contrary, if using Wi-Fi is mandatory, then ensure that your computer and router support the latest Wi-Fi requirements. In addition to this, try to keep the computer as close to the router without any obstacles in between.

It is generally accepted that Broadband connections offer maximum internet speeds. DSL, fiber-optic and cable modem offer good upload and download speeds. Also, talk to your service provider and see what options they have to improve your upload and download speeds.

Testing your internet speed is the primary factor in ensuring a trouble-free live stream. Also, understand the fact that when you are using the internet and simultaneously another software on your computer is using the internet, it may slow down your uploads. So, remove unwanted applications and software which are using the internet. Also, ensure that you are protecting your computer with trusted security software and proper scanning is happening. Still, if you experience a lesser upload speed, then talk to your service provider to understand the issue and fix it forever.
